Clients often ask about installing skylights and the best material for this. We know the unique characteristics of different materials, pros and cons of each type and what application they are best suited for. We also take into consideration our Australian climate and the materials that can withstand the extremes of our temperatures.

Why acrylic?

When it comes to skylights, acrylic is the more economical and practical choice. It is lighter than glass and a great favourite for roof installations. It works really well as a material for skylight domes because of its natural strength, UV stability and it is highly tolerant of years of sunlight (only 3% degradation outdoors over a 10-year period) . In terms of design, we love working with acrylic because of its flexibility of design and sizes.

  • Resists yellowing from the sun

  • Better clarity than glass transmitting 92% of light

  • Easier to machine and form

  • Shiny material that can be polished to a smooth finish

  • Has an impact resistance that is 17x that of glass

  • Easy to clean

  • Available in a range of colours
